A nearly exact replica of the legendary hip hop sequencer, the E-MU SP1200, in the form of a 2 inch wide, 4GB USB Flash Drive. There's an incredible amount of detail on this piece, down to the colors and the raised buttons, knobs and text. To reveal the USB plug, you simply pull it apart down the middle and bam... you got 4 Gigs of compact flash drive space to take with wherever you may go.

For those who don't know. DJ Hideo passed away after a tough battle with cancer on April 24th, 2010. For those who don't know, Hideo was one of the hardest working dj's on the west coast. He was known for rocking mad parties, clubs and the radio. He was a talented and incredibly humble dude who was also a father but will be remembered by many as one hell of a dj.

I remember meeting Hideo at the Beat Swapmeet back in the day. He would always swing by the Waxpoetics table and ask about the first issues. I remember selling him a boombox because his daughter wanted it. He ended up connecting them to a set of turntables by the Buddha Co. booth and started tearing it up on the cuts! He was real cool and it seemed like we had been friends forever. We all miss you Hideo, rest easy...

Please drop by www.djhideo.com and drop a comment. Let's keep his memory alive!
I'm feelin what these young, DMV cats are doing. Dunc & Toine Making Dollars. Dig the video for the song "You" off "The Basics EP" which dropped back in January. You can download it free here. These cats know the formula.

As you may know by now, we lost one of the greatest voices in hip hop. Guru of Gangstarr made his spiritual transition on 4-19-10. Guru will always be a legend in hip hop and regardless of all the controversy surrounding his death, he will continue to be in our hearts and live forever through his music.

Here are some parting words from his Gangstarr counterpart; DJ Premier.

IT WAS A SAD DAY FOR ME TO GET CONFIRMATION ON THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO I WILL CONTINUE TO CALL MY BROTHER, KEITH ELAM, BETTER KNOWN AS GURU OF THE LEGENDARY GANG STARR.

FROM 1988-2004, WE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH SUCCESS TOGETHER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR BUSINESSES INDEPENDENTLY AND GIVE EACH OTHER WHAT GURU CALLED “CREATIVE SPACE”, BEFORE PLANNING TO REUNITE FOR OUR 7TH LP WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT. TRAGICALLY, WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT DAY.

I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE.

I WILL CELEBRATE GURU’S LIFE… I WILL HONOR HIS MEMORY… I WILL GRIEVE WITH THE ELAM FAMILY OVER HIS UNTIMELY DEATH… I WILL REMEMBER THE GANG STARR FOUNDATION AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GANG STARR WHO CAME BEFORE ME – WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER… MOSTLY, I WILL CHERISH EVERYTHING WE CREATED TOGETHER AS GANG STARR, FOREVER. I’M GONNA MISS HEARING HIS SIGNATURE MONOTONE VOICE WHEN HE WALKS IN THE ROOM, BUT THE SONGS WILL ALWAYS BRING IT BACK TO ME….HIS RHYME FLOWS WERE INSANE, AND I WILL NEVER REMOVE HIM FROM MY HEART AND SOUL…….REST IN PEACE TO THE MAN WHO FELT “SATISFACTION FROM THE STREET CROWD REACTION” … I LOVE YOU GOO…….DJ PREMIER

Check out these clever wallets from DESIGN BOOM. Real simple and clean. Id like to see some of these made from some classic cassettes!
As we explored in a previous post, 1994 was a pivotal year for Hip Hop music. DJ Premier's unofficial blog posts up old mixes by Premier like this one on his WBLS Thunder Storm radio show. Here's a mix recorded on March 18th, 1994. Listen and take a trip back in time...

here's a mix of Dilla tribute joints found at thesouldojo. The mix includes joints we've all heard before by Madlib, Dela, The Roots, J Rawls, Flying Lotus and more. Enjoy

my favorite producer conveying jewels about the industry. Return of the Boom Bip sounds interesting to say the least...

Hardware heads know the deal. When I say hardware, Im talking about drum machines. SP-1200's and MPC's. I mean let's not forget where this hip hop music comes from. When it comes personalizing these machines there is no one above the world famous Bruce Forat. He is known for designing and customizing instruments from most of your favorite hip hop artists. From Def Jam to G-unit, from Snoop Dog to DJ Swamp. Forat has done it. Recently he collaborated with the RZA to put out a limited edition Roland MV-8000. Check out www.forat.com for a very comprehensive website about what he does and also enjoy the eye candy featured in the gallery. For now feast your eyes on this:

The 2 year Anniversary for the Beat Swapmeet was pretty close to being sabotaged by the weather. The local forecast predicted rain on the day of the event. Luckily, it missed us. The weather couldn't have been any better. It was a great turnout and this was probably the best one so far! You had alot of people in the house. The male to female ratio was good plus the crates were lookin' lovely.

Inside the Grandstar, there were a ton of vendors packin' the heat. Delicious Vinyl as well as Buena Park Record Show veteran Armand Lewis were in the house

It's pretty common to run into known producers/dj's at the Beat Swapmeet. This is the first time I saw DJ Babu at one. Here he is diggin thru Listen Recovery Crew's crates. Other notable people at the event would include: The Alchemist, Mr. Choc, Lord Zen of the Visionaries, Awol One + Circus of the Shapeshifters and Percee P.

Dj Endo and Bobby Quevedo had the outside locked down. These dudes probably had the most traffic. LP's, 12"s, 45"s and tapes. They weren't fuckin' around!

The lovely females of RRS FEED were in the house pickin' up a few things...

Now let's talk about the first ever official Beat Swapmeet DJ Battle. It was hosted by DJ Jawa of Rehab records/Scratch Academy. 12 contestants entered to be judged by Charlie Rock, Pryvet Peepsho and Mr. Choc for a $500 prize. VINYL ONLY! The attendance was insane!

Overall, it was good to see alot of new people coming out to this event. I think that things can only get bigger for Beat Swapmeet. Come out to the next one! July 13th.

We all know how influential Photoshop is these days. It's a household name. Just about anybody can get a copy of it and start clicking away on some effects and Voila! Your graphics are done. It might look like shit but its done. But yeah, somebody thought that if people had Photoshop on their refridgerators then maybe they could design better? So Okay, I know that the world is full of alot of bullshit that we don't need. Here is more of it. But hey, atleast it's some cool shit to look at. Get em here.
